Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has suggested adopting new technology and innovations to transform the Indian Railways. He was speaking at a technical seminar organized by the Centre of Railways Information System (CRIS) today to explore the options of integrating data analytics to transform railway networks.
The Minister spoke about the need for rapid transformation of Indian Railways using AI and Quantum Computing technology. He stated that the country needs sudden change to catch up with the rest of the world, and Indian Railways should lead the change by adopting the latest technologies.
According to the Minister, the Government of India has clear objectives: focus, intent, flexibility, open-mindedness and a sense of purpose to do things which are “Desh Ke Hit Mein aur Railways Ke Hit Mein”.
The country believes in adopting innovation and new technologies to make better things for people. Quantum computing technology is one of the steps in this direction. This technology brings us close to data safety. Also, India can use railway assets better and more professionally.
Minister believes that data analytics may provide valuable insights that can help optimize various operations of the Indian Railways. It can be used to improve maintenance, enhance the efficiency of train schedules, and reduce operational costs. By analyzing data, Indian Railways can predict the demand for trains and plan to provide adequate resources. This will reduce congestion and minimize delays.
During the seminar, MD, CRIS, D.K Singh informed that CRIS has collaborated with ISRO for live tracking of trains under Real Time Train Information System (RTIS). This will help the railways un trains efficiently. In addition, Satcom and Satnav-based IoT devices will be deployed on the trains.
The seminar is a significant initiative acknowledging the importance of innovation and technology in providing an efficient and reliable transport system. Integrating data analytics can play a crucial role in transforming the railway network and addressing the various challenges faced by the Indian Railways.
