The Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Kottayam has launched MTech programs in AI for working professionals in the industry, research, and academia. These MTech programs are 60-credit self-paced programs in 3 to 5 years. The number of credits obtained by candidates in these MTech programs is the same as the number of credits required of students in a full-time M.Tech degree.

The curriculum offers numerous possibilities for students to refresh their research and development abilities. Modern and pertinent specialities provide insights into the subjects. In addition, through participation in the research projects of the department's faculty, the associated thesis work permits research and development on a topic of your choosing.

In addition, this experience will aid in their promotion within the firm and prepare them for the most profitable positions in 

• Cyber Security, 
• Data Science, 
• Data Engineering, 
• Financial Technology, 
• Machine Learning, and 
• Advanced Analytics. 

Current MTech concentrations include 

(1) Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, 

(2) Cyber Security, 

(3) Finance Technology, and 

(4) Big Data and Machine Learning.

Credit system

With the 60-credit, the students can complete the self-paced curriculum in three to five years. In the first two years, the students will complete 32 credits of the curriculum. They would work on a project with two phases in the third year, each worth 14 credits. Students can complete the required coursework in two to four years while taking fewer courses every semester. Moreover, this MTech programme requires the same credits as a full-time MTech programme.

Programme highlights 

• Case studies, simulations, virtual labs, and remote labs enable students to apply concepts to simulated and real-world scenarios.
• Encourage and prepare engineers to present journal or conference articles during the program duration.
• The thesis (project work) allows students to apply concepts and practices taught throughout the program in the final two semesters. Course interruption is available for individuals who choose on-site employment.
• The curriculum employs a continuous evaluation system to assess the students at convenient and frequent intervals.
• Course breaks are possible for those who go for onsite assignments. The MTech programme duration is Six Semesters, which should be completed within a duration of minimum three to a maximum of five years.
• Students can expand it to an integrated PhD program.

Eligibility

1. At the time of application, the candidate must be in industry, research, or academia. 

2. The candidate must have a B.Tech./BE/AMIE degree in any area or an MCA or MSc/MS degree in computer science, information technology, mathematics, physics, or statistics. In addition, the candidate's cumulative grade point average should be at least 60% on the degree test.

Mode of study

Classes, virtual lab sessions, and mid-semester exams will all be online.

• The end semester exam will be offline, either on-campus or off-campus, as determined by the Senate.
• Students would be aware of the time window in which a course would be presented in advance to assist them in choosing electives.
• The in-house platform will handle live recording, submission, and internal evaluation.
