Improvements in the human-machine relationship might be the most significant change that AI will bring. Machines were never smart enough to interact with human beings through natural means. However, with the advent of conversational AI, the limitations of human-machine interaction have diminished.
INDIAai’s Content and Research Lead, Jibu Elias and Tech Mahindra’s CTO of Digital Technologies and Global Head of AI, Hasit Trivedi, analyzed the role of AI in the changing landscape of human-machine interaction in the latest edition of the INDIAai LinkedIn Live. “Speech and vision are the two game-changing pieces AI provided”, stated Hasit Trivedi.
The emergence of AI has eradicated language barriers around the world. In Hasit’s opinion, this phenomenon will uplift the knowledge quotients of humans across the globe as the sources of information will become multifold with this.
Looking back at our history, human evolution has witnessed the birth of the news machine. From the stone age to the age of AI, humans have invented newer devices to make life easier. “Not once has machines taken over the role of a man. But, on the other hand, the number of jobs has increased due to the invention of new machines”, said Hasit.
With the increase in efficiency, consumption will also rise, leading to human-machine coexistence. Also, human-in-loop is an essential aspect of emerging technology as all the human powers are embedded in these models. Hence, it is vital to be cognisant of whatever we do.
“AI is exciting, but it can be dangerous”, stated Hasit speaking about responsible AI. In his opinion, it is a relief that governments and organizations are aware of the dangers that the irresponsible use of technology can bring and are including restrictions through policy frameworks.
Explainability is a significant parameter in the adoption of responsible AI. An organization that fails to advocate may lose its customers’ trust. Hence, this concept of responsible AI should be fed into the grassroots of AI development.
Who is rightfully adopting responsible AI? Unfortunately, there is no correct answer to this question. Big companies are calling for the responsible use of AI, Governmental policies and regulations are in place, and independent organizations are spreading awareness on the importance of responsible use of this emerging technology.
But the best strategy for implementing AI will vary among organizations, and it could only be formulated through a trial and error method. In Hasit Trivedi’s opinion, responsible AI will be “a long process, and it will not be easy”.
Let it be accountability or referenceability, there are several concerns concerning the adoption of AI. However, aspects such as human-in-loop and responsible adoption of AI can produce safe and effective results.
