IndiaAI, an Independent Business Division (IBD) under the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY), calls for Expression of Interest (EoI) from individuals and organizations to lead AI development projects that foster accountability, mitigate AI harms, and promote fairness in AI practices.  

The initiative is part of the IndiaAI Mission, which aims to democratize AI's benefits across all strata of society, bolster India's global leadership in AI, foster technological self-reliance, and ensure ethical and responsible use of AI.  

As part of this mission, the Safe & Trusted AI pillar recognizes the need for adequate guardrails to advance the responsible adoption of AI and enables the development of indigenous tools and frameworks, self-assessment checklists for innovators, and other guidelines and governance frameworks.  

During the first round of the EoI, eight Safe & Trusted AI Projects were selected across critical themes to promote fair, transparent, and ethical AI practices in India.  

The EoI focuses on developing innovative solutions in watermarking and labelling, ethical AI frameworks, AI risk assessment and management, stress testing tools, and deepfake detection. These solutions aim to promote transparency, accountability, and fairness in AI-generated content, ensure the safe deployment of AI in public services, and prevent misinformation and harm in the digital ecosystem.   

Academic institutes, R&D organizations, autonomous bodies, start-ups, and companies are eligible to participate.  

Interested individuals and organizations can submit their Expression of Interest within 30 days from the launch date (10th December 2024) here.

Submission Guidelines 

• The font of the submitted papers/articles should be Times New Roman, 12 font size and single space. It should be in the PDF format. 
• Joint applications with partners are encouraged.  
• Multiple submissions are allowed, but each proposal must be unique.
