Summary

The starting of a fresh decade means renewed hope and advancements in science and technology. While it may seem business-as-usual for all others, for women it is a decade of opportunity to make a mark in the field of technology. Despite the first computer programmer being a female, woman’s contribution to technology are often left out of history books and acclaims!! There has been sufficient data and evidence that suggests little participation of women in STEM discipline. Much like technology, there is a considerable gender gap in AI with less than 30% of the AI industry being women. However, what one fails to realize is the fact that lack of women in technology and leadership implies missed opportunities for growth in business.

As per the recent trends, the AI job market is expected to grow substantially in the next few years thereby widening the opportunity for women to enter the realm of advanced technologies. While it is proven that AI system suffers from gender bias as evident from its end-product and solutions, it is high time that women should be welcomed in this field and create diverse participation to minimize such biases.

To do so, young minds should be encouraged to study subjects such as maths and science that open the doors for opportunities to work in this field. The other way is to create interest by publicizing success stories of women in AI and learn from them along their journey in AI. INDIAai’s 21 Women in '21 is such an initiative that glorifies the success of women in AI to instigate confidence and assurance among women to take that bold step without hesitance.
