The world is undergoing a paradigm shift with the advanced technology and popularity of AI chatbots like ChatGPT, Bing and Bard. Most of the things we felt were impossible until last year is suddenly possible now, and companies are now competing to show the applications of emerging technologies in daily life. Besides the excellence of AI chatbots, even a new career option like prompt engineering is also gaining prominence by offering vast career opportunities for prompt engineers who can ask questions to models producing desired responses and even write prose to test the AI system.

We have already witnessed the tremendous opportunities put forward by the Future of Jobs report by the World Economic Forum, which predicted the Indian job market churn is expected to be 23% by creating 69 million new job opportunities. Moreover, as per the report, almost a quarter of jobs are expected to change in the next five years, with a growth of 10.2% globally. This ensures a secured career when opting to pursue Artificial Intelligence-related career opportunities.

Recently a report compiled by one of the popular job search portals, Indeed, exposed that there has been a 150% exponential surge in job postings on the portal that is related to Artificial Intelligence in India for the last five years. The report also mentioned that there is a similar trend in job searchers found in other countries like Singapore and the United States as well. Singapore showed a 94.7% surge in AI job listing over the past five years, while a 30% jump in job postings for software developers and AI-related jobs was found in the US.

Indeed says, AI has already gained an impact in the Indian job market

The report by Indeed predominantly highlights the surge in demand for generative AI-related job roles and how many skilled professionals in India are attracted towards getting a job in the field of AI. According to the data, there has been almost an 89% increase in the search for jobs related to generative AI and large language models in March 2023 when compared to March 2018.

Sashi Kumar, Head of Sales, Indeed India, told Hindustan Times, “India has emerged as a significant player in the global AI landscape, with a growing pool of talented AI professionals. While it’s challenging to determine if India has the largest talent pool for AI, there is no denying that the country has made remarkable progress in this field”. He further added that India has a great opportunity to leverage its talent pool and create an ecosystem for AI innovation and development. However, he also mentioned that the emergence and popularity of AI pose various significant challenges, such as the development of skilled talent and upskilling of the existing workforce.

Recently, with the AI boom, there have been many speculations regarding the probability of job displacements after getting automated by AI’s emergence. Many discussions were going on regarding the predicted job losses and layoffs. However, research by Goldman Sachs proposed about 26% of tasks across the sectors show the potential to get automated. Meanwhile, Harvard Business Review suggests generative AI can also bring advanced competencies in the creative and marketing industry.

However, the Future of Jobs report by the World Economic Forum proposes AI will boost prominent job roles like machine learning specialists, scientists, data analysts and digital transformational specialists that will pave the way for new job opportunities as well.
