AI has advanced significantly during the previous 60 years. While many AI applications have been deployed in high-income countries, deployment in resource-poor settings is still in its early stages. There are few examples of AI in such circumstances, with a few significant exceptions. There are, however, indicators that this is changing. In recent years, several high-profile meetings have been held to address the development and deployment of artificial intelligence (AI) applications to eliminate poverty and deliver a wide range of critical public services.
At the 2023 GPAI Summit, AI Education and Skilling: Bridging the Talent Gap (Public) was organized. The speakers include Dr Mariagrazia Squicciarini, Chief of Executive Office, Social and Human Sciences Sector, UNESCO; Mr Ved Mani Tiwari, Chairman, NSDC; Ms Swati Jain, Vice President, EXL Analytics; Ms Srikripa Srinivasan, Vice President, Dell Global Analytics, Mr. Basheerahmad Shadrach, Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia, and Group Participant, Future of Work, GPAI, Ms. Kirti Seth, CEO, Sector Skills Council, NASSCOM.
The primary objective of this session is to investigate the developing correlation between artificial intelligence (AI) and education, particularly in terms of enhancing skills and addressing the talent gap. This session seeks to provide a thorough grasp of how AI is altering the workforce, focusing on emerging job roles, AI-driven skills, and the ethical application of AI in professional settings.
The discussion primarily addressed the various complex consequences of AI, including its effects on innovation, the adoption of AI by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and the commercial strategies employed by firms. Identify strategies to foster strategic collaborations among firms in the AI value chain to develop solutions for ensuring the long-term viability of trade and commerce. These collaborations should focus on implementing customised business practices to meet the requirements of both global and local markets.
Mr. Ved Mani Tiwari discussed incorporating skill development within the educational system. Following this, Swait Jain mentioned a significant need for resources in India. Enhance your abilities by dedicating daily time to acquiring new knowledge and skills. She added that “India experiences a significant demand for resources. Enhance your skills by dedicating time each day to learning.”
Likewise, Srikripa Srinivasan mentioned the abundance of available resources. He emphasized the importance of continual learning to keep up with the pace. Furthermore, the conversation continued, stressing the urgency of implementing primary education. Additionally, the delegates emphasized the necessity for further growth in industry-academia partnerships.
The GPAI Summit 2023 involves the participation of delegations from 28 member countries and the European Union, which includes 5 Ministerial delegations from Canada, France, Japan, Turkey, and the UK. Furthermore, the Summit is being attended by 67 GPAI Experts and over 120 industry executives and experts.
