Generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) tools have become increasingly accessible and have impacted school education in numerous ways. However, most of the discussions occur in higher education. Teachers' parents are crucial for making sense of innovative technologies in schools. Students are using generative artificial intelligence (genAI), organizations are embracing AI and machine learning, and tools are emerging almost daily, and addressing these evolving technologies can be overwhelming. Rather than ignoring genAI, computer science (CS) instructors can find ways to teach with and guide students in using genAI in their courses. Teaching about genAI can be incorporated with instruction about effective and appropriate uses of the ever-growing tools.

Here are some GenAI tools that are transforming the field of education.

Duolingo Max: Duolingo Max is a new subscription tier above Super Duolingo that gives learners access to two brand-new features and exercises: Explain My Answer and Roleplay. Both are powered by the newest, most potent generative AI technology. Duolingo Max gives learners all the benefits of Super (unlimited hearts, no ads, and personalized reviews through the Practice Hub) and two new AI-powered features. These new features are Explain My Answer and Roleplay. Sometimes, you make a mistake, but you're not exactly sure what the *correct* answer would be. Or maybe you keep repeating the same mistake repeatedly and can't figure out why. Explain My Answer allows learners to learn more about their response in a lesson (whether their answer was correct or incorrect!) By tapping a button after certain exercise types, learners can enter a chat with Duo to get a simple explanation of why their answer was right or wrong and ask for examples or further clarification.

Fetchy: Fetchy is a virtual assistant for educators. You'll still send emails and teach lessons, but how you do all this will never be the same. Fetchy creates lessons, finds projects, and more in seconds. On average, educators save 2.5 hours a day with Fetchy. Lean on Fetchy to write stuff, organize things, and find unlimited inspiration. Fetchy is privacy-compliant and has accurate and usable results.

Coursera: Coursera was founded by AI pioneer Andrew Ng, also a former head of AI at Google, so it is no surprise that AI is built into its core. The platform recently introduced a service called Coach, which acts as an AI tutor to provide personalized feedback and automated summaries of course materials and lectures.

Course Hero: The learning platform Course Hero provides a new tool called Learn This Document that lets students upload study materials on any subject and receive AI-powered insights, explanations and learning aids. It can even create quizzes that students can use to test their knowledge on any subject or learning material. Course Hero also offers an AI Academy course specially tailored to the needs of teachers, tutors and educators who want to learn how to use AI to improve learning.
