The Indian Geo-Platform developed by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) facilitates the retrieval of 2D and 3D maps encompassing comprehensive information about the environment and many natural attributes.

The demand for maps has increased dramatically in all parts of the world over the last few decades, owing to the growing number of geospatial relationships, increased human mobility, and more physical planning issues caused by more intensive land and water use. However, technological advancements have resulted in more maps being created and used than ever before.

Bhuvan

Users can access 2D and 3D maps of the environment and other natural elements via the Indian Geo-Platform, which ISRO built. The information can be used for various purposes, including but not limited to forest and water resource monitoring, agricultural planning, and urban development.

The Indian government promotes using the platform to further the development of management services and eGovernance applications.

Bhuvan 2D

The Bhuvan 2D visualization interface is intended to give the following features:

  • Map view: For the entire country, the map view gives administrative (State, District, Tehsil, Village) and hydrologic (Basin, Sub-basin, Watershed) data.
  • Satellite image view: The satellite view includes satellite data with resolutions of I m, 2.5 m, 23 m, and 56 m for the entire country.
  • Hybrid: It offers both a satellite and a map view.
  • Terrain view: It provides a view of the terrain (with height).

Bhuvan 3D

  • Bhuvan 3D depicts objects in three dimensions on the Bhuvan platform. It permits the display of multisensor, multiplatform, and multitemporal data in addition to height information.
  • Users may find terrain profiles and other features such as capturing screenshots information, adding layers, drawing layers, measuring areas, and so on.
  • The 3D globe displays satellite imagery, which can be viewed as maps instead of satellite imagery.
  • It allows you to overlap Administrative boundaries, Road and Rail boundaries, Panchayat boundaries, Sub Basin, Basin, and River layers.
  • It displays three-dimensional models of six cities. Bhuvan makes it easier to access 3D models from the community. If they can share the 3D models in the proper format with us, they will be hosted in the public domain after validation.

ISRO Automatic Weather Station Visualization:

It makes accessing weather information from ISRO Automatic Weather Stations easier by displaying current and archived data/information graphically and allowing users to use tabular weather data of their choosing. It will enable you to find weather information for any location in India using the information from the nearest AWS station. It also visualizes Ocean Services such as Potential Fishing Zones, Chlorophyll and Sea Surface Temperature, and other ocean data such as Agro Floats, Moored Buoys, Waverider Buoys, etc.

Conclusion

Google Maps is reliable for location, traffic, and weather because of the massive data it has collected. The app also has extra features like 3D maps and street view. ISRO's 'Bhuvan' may now draw from a far broader pool of information. The application was specifically developed to attract a diverse user base, offering a multitude of practical functionalities that position it as a feasible substitute for Google Maps within the Indian context.
