Artificial intelligence has the potential to achieve a significant amount of social good in India. It has proven game-changing use cases in India's healthcare, education, agriculture, transportation, environmental sustainability, and financial services, among others.

To encourage even higher adoption of AI in socially important sectors, Capgemini and Telangana AI Mission (T-AIM) have introduced AI for Social Good Awards to recognize and empower innovative and impactful AI applications for the social sector emerging India's startup ecosystem.

T-AIM, powered by NASSCOM, was established in 2020 by the Government of Telangana. The foundation of T-AIM has one vision- to position Telangana as a global hub for AI and foster social innovation.

In line with the vision of the Govt of Telangana, the T-AIM is building India's homegrown AI community that is keenly trained to solve and address native challenges based on inferences and insights stemming from locally available datasets. They conduct several initiatives throughout the year to encourage innovation within the AI community.

Applicants note

There are three basic categories for the event. However, the classifications are not limited to these categories. It includes:

  • Health and Sanitation
  • Skill developments and livelihoods
  • Sustainable environment

The use case submitted should be live and not in the pilot/prototype stage. They will be judged on the merit of impact over the past 1-2 years, even if it has been operating longer than that. Also, the applicants must ensure that the startup is incorporated in India, as the AI solution needs to be deployed in India.

Also, the startups can submit more than one application in multiple categories and use cases.

Process and criteria

The applications are selected based on three major criteria. Firstly, the problem chosen should be solved using AI implementation. Secondly, the innovation must be displayed in the solution deployed. And thirdly, the applicant team should be clear about the impact of deploying the proposed AI solution.

The AI for Social Good Awards will have a jury interview round, which will be conducted virtually. The details will be shared with the shortlisted startups by email.

The information shared by the team in the application or when asked for during the award consideration will be reviewed by the organizing team and jury members. Post-award, the organizers and/or its patterns can cover the winning entries in their chosen form.

Dates to remember

The application was opened on 1st February 2023. An informational webinar for the participants will be conducted on 20th February 2023. The application deadline will be open till the 28th of February, 2023.

After a thorough review of all the submissions, the final list of shortlisted candidates will be released on the 7th of March, 2023, followed by the jury interviews on the 10th. Finally, the winners will be awarded on 17th March 2023.

For each category, ₹7 lakhs will be issued to the winning startup to scale their social sector innovation further.
