As the Chair of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI), India successfully hosted the GPAI Summit from December 12 - 14, 2023, at the Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.
The summit was attended by almost 22,000 individuals, with more than 15,000 AI enthusiasts participating electronically. Furthermore, other emerging companies and renowned technology enterprises showcase their AI applications and solutions at the Global AI Expo.
This week, we will explore the project presentation of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri Campus.
It is an integrated crowd-sourced Geo-enabled platform enhancing multi-scale Sustainability and Resilience through AI-driven Monitoring, Assessment, Benchmarking, and Recommendations. This platform collects community-level data and addresses sustainability and resilience issues across thematic areas. Platform maps, measures, and assesses Sustainability and Resilience Indicators, providing policy recommendations based on SDG thresholds.
Elephants frequently encroach upon agricultural fields, devouring crops and jeopardizing villagers' livelihoods. Solar fencing deters these incursions. Despite fencing, elephants are adept at finding ways to breach the barriers. It necessitated the development of an Elephant Early Warning System, employing cameras and AI algorithms for efficient and real-time elephant detection. Upon detecting an elephant, the system triggers warnings sent to villagers through Telegram and SMS.
The team demonstrated their Elephant Warning System through a miniature model featuring cameras, sensors, solar fencing, and a simulated field. During the demo, the team illustrated how an elephant crossing the infrared beam prompts the camera to capture an image of the intruder. With the AI algorithm, the system quickly analyzes the image to confirm an elephant. A Telegram warning is sent if the intruder is an elephant.
The landslide monitoring and early warning system uses advanced AI and IoT technology for real-time early warnings based on AI models developed from data received from spatially distributed sensors. This system has been installed in critical regions like the Western Ghats in Munnar, Kerala, and the Himalayas in Chandmari, Sikkim. Since 2009, our system has integrated 150 geological sensors and 25 wireless nodes for real-time monitoring, proving its reliability. The system demonstrated its efficacy by issuing timely warnings during critical events in Munnar from 2009 to 2021, showcasing its ability to mitigate disasters and save lives. This work is recognized with a US patent for a predictive landslide system and prestigious awards, including the World Centre of Excellence Award for Landslide Disaster Risk Reduction (2017-2023) and the 2023 Averted Disaster Award, With landslides causing a $400 million annual loss worldwide, their innovative approach addresses a critical need in disaster management.
Their team developed a revolutionary 5-in-1 Wearable Device for people with diabetes and heart patients, offering rapid, non-invasive monitoring of blood glucose, blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen levels, and respiratory rate within 2 minutes, eliminating pricking or cuffing. Patented and tested on 2000 patients, it earned three US patents and was a 2023 Medical Awards runner-up. Additionally, the AI-based sleep apnea scoring tool is set to benefit over 1 million patients annually, highlighting its significant societal impact.
This technology focuses on artificial intelligence and machine learning for sign language recognition of questions and vocabulary in FAQs across Pan-India e-Gov services. It will also build a Chat System for the hearing impaired, so they are able to get responses to their queries using Indian Sign Language. The project is expected to have a significant impact on the lives of deaf people in India. It will give them the ability to access e-governance services independently and with dignity. It will also help to raise awareness of the challenges faced by deaf people and promote the use of ISL.
Their advanced learning management system is a dynamic platform based on LLM and a tailored ChatGPT, focusing on a holistic three-tiered approach: Self-assessment, Learning Materials, and Doubt Clearance. AdvLMS leads the charge in educational technology, deployed in numerous government institutes like NSDC and having over 10 lakh active users.
Additionally they had showcased the following projects:
OceanNet is an affordable marine internet service that utilizes offshore communication technology to enable bidirectional communication, tracking, and monitoring of boats at sea. Users can access smartphone apps and services while at sea, receiving real-time information and alerts tailored for fishermen. The system employs heterogeneous multihop technology, providing long-range WiFi capabilities, and has undergone 400 hours of sea trials with successful performance up to 70 kilometres away from the shore. This innovative solution aims to enhance connectivity and safety for maritime activities.
This initiative represents a green revolution in building infrastructure by leveraging cutting-edge technologies such as AI, ML, and blockchain to significantly lower carbon footprints. The transformation involves implementing intelligent meters for precise carbon emission monitoring, turning traditional buildings into eco-friendly smart structures.
This project addresses water quality issues and inequities through a community-centric approach. It incorporates a Geo-AI-based water quality and health risk assessment tool featuring a recommender system for potential waterborne diseases. The system utilizes remote sensing technology to monitor real-time water quality parameters. An IoT-enabled smart solution is also implemented to tackle intermittent and inequitable water supply.
