Recognizing the potential of AI in different fields the global governments are investing substantial efforts and resources to promote its nationwide application. Equipped with the best IT talent capital, India has also started many ambitious initiatives to transform AI into a digital tool for national development with a keen focus on health, education, and governance. To help bridge the gap between demand and supply. The Indian government has also designed a robust framework to impart AI education to Indian students. It will not only help in strengthening the AI talent pool but will also make the students more employable by equipping them with the latest technology which is in high demand. In this post, we are going to mention some of the initiatives by the Indian government to promote the use of Artificial Intelligence in India. 

 

Applied AI Research Centre in Telangana

 Counted as the youngest state of India, Telangana has been at the forefront of development since the beginning. Towards the end of last year, the state government launched INAI or Intel AI in collaboration with IIIT Hyderabad, the Public Health Foundation of India, and the Public Health Foundation of India. It is a Hyderabad-based applied AI research center that works towards utilizing AI to mitigate and manage the healthcare & smart mobility challenges of the country.


Considering the importance of healthcare and smart mobility social development, especially in the context of rural India and difficult terrains, this collaboration holds a huge potential to drive a positive impact. Under the stewardship of prominent AI experts, cutting-edge technologies will be used to build reliable computing architecture; sophisticated tools, and curated datasets to drive substantial improvements in facilitate smart mobility and improve the reach of public healthcare.


US-India AI Initiative

 On 18th March this year US-India Artificial Intelligence was launched by IUSSTF to build a strong platform for promoting the growth of AI through idea exchange, exploring R&D opportunities, and strengthening the collaboration prospects between the two countries. 

The initiative has very ambitious plans in the pipeline for this year including detailed documentation for discovering how AI can be best employed in the domains that are critically important for healthy national development- like energy, health, and agriculture among others. For developing an all-around perspective the Forum will collect key inputs from a diverse community of stakeholders. It is worth mentioning that data diversity plays an important role in AI development endeavors and diversity has always been the key strength of India. 

MCA 3.0 portal

 Conventional regulatory filing and other corporate paperwork could be a cumbersome task for businesses. Recognizing these challenges, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs introduced a modern and agile version of its portal- version 3.0, MCA 21. It is designed to take the complexity out of regulatory filing for companies with the help of AI/ML and advanced data analytics capabilities for automating and streamlining the processes. Along with improving ease of doing business this initiative will also strengthen compliance monitoring and help create a well-organized ecosystem for businesses. It will provide a robust tracking mechanism for monitoring historical law changes while also providing quick access to most current legislations. Overall it will help in bringing transformative changes to incorporate regulatory and governance systems.

Responsible AI for Youth

 Due to its increasing popularity and application in real-life instances, AI can unlock a vast array of opportunities for students. Keeping this in mind the National e-Governance Division of MeitY has established Responsible AI- a national level program for Youth that will focus on eliminating the skill gaps by imparting the appropriate education and skills to government school students. The scheme also entails the plans to equip students with the right aptitude to enhance their overall employability. One distinguishing feature of this initiative is the emphasis on developing practical skills rather than burdening the students with dense theoretical concepts. Along with democratizing AI access, it will also encourage the youth to utilize acquired AI skills for building meaningful solutions for key social challenges of the country.


AI portal

 A join venture of MeitY and NASSCOM, the AI portal is a dedicated central ecosystem encompassing information, resources, and the latest updates about different initiatives and developments in the field of AI in India. It has been thoughtfully designed to invite people of different backgrounds and educational qualifications to be a part of the AI community. Right from AI enthusiasts to experts, think-tank personalities and working professionals the portal offers a thriving platform for everyone to gain, exhibit, and hone AI knowledge. It has a rich repository of the latest news, articles, and opinion pieces by renowned AI experts.


National Research Foundation

 R&D plays an indispensable role in the overall development of any sector. With its solid predictive capabilities, analytical strength, and robust algorithm-based logical aptitude, the AI promises to boost research endeavors across different domains. To facilitate that National Education Policy (NEP) established NRF for building a strong synergy between R&D, industry, and academia to strengthen the collaboration among the three. By bridging the gap between different bodies, this initiative will boost the research lifecycle and eliminate time-to-market delays while also ensuring the real-life stamina of AI applications.

AI or Artificial Intelligence can go a long way in helping India to achieve its ambitious goals in the sector of healthcare, social development, and education- among others.
