As a subfield of AI, Natural Language Processing is one of the most broadly applied areas of machine learning. NLP focuses on teaching computers to understand and process large amounts of data written in natural human language. As AI continues to expand, so will the demand for professionals skilled at building models that analyse speech and language, uncover contextual patterns, and produce insights from text and audio. These and other NLP applications are going to be at the forefront of the coming transformation to an AI-powered future.

We list here five online courses to help learners at all levels with building your skills in NLP.

  • Natural Language Processing Specialisation – by Deeplearning.ai: Comprising four individual courses, this specialisation will equip you with the state-of-the-art deep learning techniques needed to build cutting-edge NLP systems. By the end of this specialisation, you will be ready to design NLP applications that perform question-answering and sentiment analysis, create tools to translate languages and summarize text, and even build chatbots. It is an intermediate level curriculum requiring prior working knowledge of machine learning, intermediate Python experience including DL frameworks & proficiency in calculus, linear algebra, & statistics. Program can be audited for free and it will take about 4 months to complete on Coursera.
  • Natural Language Processing with Deep Learning – by Stanford School of Engineering: This is a cohort-based program that will run from February 15 - April 25, 2021. It is designed for working professionals who want to dive into AI topics at graduate-level depth. You will gain a thorough understanding of modern neural network algorithms for the processing of linguistic information. To successfully complete the program, participants will complete five assignments. A short application needs to be completed for enrolling into the program. Credits earned can be counted towards the Artificial Intelligence Graduate Certificate from Stanford. Course duration is 10 weeks and fees is US$ 1,595.
  • Applied Natural Language Processing – Chennai Mathematical Institute: Taught by Prof. Ramaseshan R, this course is meant for students at UG or PG level. Learners will gather knowledge in the fundamentals of NLP, methods and techniques and gain skills to use them in practical situations. Prior knowledge of algorithms, Python, probability, statistics, linear algebra and machine learning is required. This 12-week course is free to take online on NPTEL, but a certificate can only be obtained after writing a proctored exam.
  • Natural Language Processing (Nanodegree Program) – by Udemy: Created in collaboration with IBM Watson and Amazon Alexa, this course will teach the essentials of natural language processing, including part-of-speech tagging, sentiment analysis, machine translation, and speech recognition. Benefits include real-world projects from industry experts, technical mentor support and career services. This program requires prior experience with Python, statistics, machine learning, and deep learning. Course will take about 3 months to complete and fees is approx. Rs 60,000.
  • Introducing Text Analytics and Natural Language Processing with Python – by University of Canterbury: This introductory course teaches the core techniques of text analytics alongside the cognitive science that makes it all possible. You will cover topics such as text processing, text mining, sentiment analysis, and topic modeling. This course is a part of the larger professional certificate. Course will take about 6 weeks to complete and it can be audited for free on edX.
