Combining conversational AI and search engines will have an impact. More and more companies are including generative AI in their products to meet the rising demand.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai has declared that the business will implement AI into its search engine. In addition, they plan to add conversational capabilities to their search engine after Microsoft does the same.

Conversational AI

Conversational AI refers to the technologies underlying automated messaging and speech-enabled systems that enable computers and humans to interact in human-like ways. Whereas chatbots can only respond to text commands, conversational AI can respond to voice commands.

Chatbots and virtual assistants such as Alexa, Siri, Google Assistant, Cortana, and others are instances of conversational AI. To provide personalized responses, these assistants understand natural language and human intent. Eliza was the first conversational AI. Alan Turing proposed in the 1950s that a computer programme might connect with humans. Eliza, the first chatbot software ever created, is a computer programme that uses natural language processing to mimic the language of a psychotherapist.

Search engine

A search engine is a web-based application that allows people to find online information. Examples of popular search engines include Google, Yahoo!, and MSN Search. Using their web crawlers, search engines crawl hundreds of billions of pages. These web crawlers are also known as search engine bots or spiders. A search engine navigates the web by downloading web pages and following links on those sites to locate newly available pages.

Conversational AI and search engine

As generative AI has become prominent, more companies use it in their products. For example, Google, which already feels threatened by OpenAI and its rising enthusiasm, has revealed that it will include AI capabilities in its search engine. Sunder Pichai, CEO of Google, has acknowledged the company's plans to incorporate ChatGPT-like AI capabilities into its search engine.

In an interview, Pichai stated, "Opportunity space, if anything, is larger than before." Google, which has previously indicated that it does not want to move too quickly with AI, is now testing many new AI features within Gmail and other work-related products.

Google search and ChatGPT

Surprisingly, Google's new initiative is inspired by Microsoft's incorporation of ChatGPT into its Bing search engine. The Microsoft search engine offers conversational capabilities and includes an AI image creator. Google had also released Bard, their answer to ChatGPT, but it got a different popularity than ChatGPT. It was also deemed less trustworthy than the other two AI models. Therefore, Google wants to strengthen its language models to make AI products more accurate and responsive.

Pichai believes AI will enhance Google's ability to respond to diverse search queries. However, he denied that chatbots endanger Google's search sector, which generates over half of Alphabet Inc.'s income.

Google pioneered the development of large language models (LLMs), which are computer programmes that can simulate human responses to queries. The organization will now utilize the technology to enhance the user experience on its search engine. Pichai confirmed that users could pose questions to Google and interact with LLMs in the search context, similar to how they can interact with ChatGPT. However, Google's current configuration does not permit users to engage in discourse with other users. If you inquire about something, you may receive a few links related to your query, but the in-depth knowledge or requirement needs to be included. Here's where AI comes in.

According to the report, Google is presently facing pressure from investors to reduce costs and competition from Microsoft's enhanced version of Bing-powered ChatGPT.

Conclusion

According to Pichai, Google's chatbot Bard, which has yet to gain popularity, has not piqued the interest of consumers. However, he stated that the company was "iterating to ship something, and maybe company timelines change, given the moment in the industry."

Furthermore, Google's inclusion of AI into its search engine demonstrates its dedication to improving user experience and staying competitive. However, LLMs in search engines are a relatively recent topic with the potential to change the business.
