As technology is rapidly advancing, the education sector in India is also undergoing considerable transformation. Artificial Intelligence plays a pivotal role in this transformation with the involvement of startups and companies utilising technology to build innovative and effective educational solutions, which range from personalised learning to virtual tutors.
One of the major applications of AI in education will be the benefit of personalised learning. The AI algorithms can observe and analyse the student data and build individual lesson plans tailored according to each student’s unique requirements and learning styles. This will enable them to excel in their test score and overall academic performance.
Recently, Amazon Web Services (AWS) India Private Limited declared that Indian ed-tech social enterprise ConveGenius has rolled out their conversational Artificial Intelligence chatbot, SwiftChat, which is explicitly for government and low-free private schools on Amazon Web Services. This platform aims to enhance the learning outputs for K-12 school students, utilising the world’s leading cloud with the help of more than 53 conversational AI chatbots that can deliver personalised learning content in about 13 regional languages to more than 100 million students in our country.
The platform enables government schools to build omnichannel chatbots to deliver customised learning, including curated videos and read-long content to the 124 million student profiles across 19 million devices through a single chatbot conversation. Besides the benefit of personalised learning techniques, SwiftChat also offers teacher training and data-driven decision-making predominantly for school administrators, such as the ability to analyse and meet the school’s requirements to maintain a healthy teacher-to-student ratio.
The National Curriculum Framework for School Education 2023 of India has already made significant progress by making personalised learning a priority in order to support the students in the country to better their studies. With the help of AWS, ConveGenius is helping the state government to deliver “Vidya Samiksha Kendra (VSK), a centralised system at the state level to analyse the enrollment, participation and learning progress of the students. VSK enables access to study materials and backs around 9.5 million teachers from 1.5 million government-run schools. With the successful pilot in Gujarat, the VSK toolkit built by ConveGenius, including several conversational AI chatbots on the platform, has been deployed in 14 states across India, including Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Uttarakhand. The platform SwiftChat takes hold of several data points from schools and provides the state insights about the student’s learning gaps and effectiveness in categories like reading, comprehension and arithmetic skills. This enables it to enhance education at the school, block and district levels.
It was in 2021 that ConveGenius moved their platform SwiftChat to AWS from their previous cloud provider. It has helped it rapidly scale to accommodate a 154-fold growth in its user base. ConveGenius is also cost-effective, as it saved 45% in IT infrastructure costs with the assistance of Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud. It ensures a safe and scalable computing capacity for any workload.
SwiftChat also worked with AWS to further optimise the costs, including using AWS Graviton2 processors that enable the best price-performance for cloud workloads on Amazon EC2. This has reportedly saved about 45% of its IT infrastructure costs.
Jairaj Bhattacharya, the co-founder and CEO of ConveGenius, says, “The chatbot platform is a game-changer for India’s education sector, offering personalised information and resources in multiple languages, enhancing teacher training, and enabling efficient resource allocation in schools. With AWS, we have rapidly built, scaled, and secured our solution to make learning more effective across India. We look forward to building on AWS by leveraging exciting technologies such as generative AI to deliver more value to students.”
Pankaj Gupta, Leader – Public Sector (Government, Education, Healthcare), AWS India Private Limited, mentioned, “India’s education sector is embracing innovations that provide a dynamic and personalised learning experience for every student. Cloud technologies, including the latest AI and data analytics tools, are breaking down the barriers of traditional classrooms and opening a world of possibilities for collaborative learning”.
He added, “ConveGenius’ advanced platform SwiftChat backed by AWS is reshaping the K-12 education in India by offering personalised learning accessible to government school students. The platform SwiftChat is a robust catalyst for change, improving the lives of more than 100 million students in India, that supports the government’s vision to ensure an inclusive and equitable quality education.”
