International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad (IIIT- H) has launched an online course for medical professionals. The integration of machine learning-based artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare is transforming how medical professionals diagnose, treat, and manage patients. However, many clinicians lack the necessary skills and understanding to effectively leverage these technologies. This course is designed to bridge this gap by equipping clinical professionals with the knowledge and tools to understand, evaluate, and apply AI in clinical settings, ultimately enhancing patient care and operational efficiency. The course aims to sensitize, familiarize, and appreciate the applications of AI tools and technologies in healthcare. It also intends to foster awareness of ethical and governance issues related to AI in medicine.

The course structure is suitable for faculty, medical professionals (MD, MS, MCh, DM, MDS), and postgraduate medical students (MBBS, BDS). Applicants who wish to pursue the course should have a basic understanding of healthcare processes and clinical practice. They should also have a curiosity for understanding the impact of modern technology in healthcare. Upon completion of the course, students will be informed, aware, and responsible end-users of AI. They will be able to evaluate, test, and validate AI applications. Their ability to critically assess AI research and technologies will be enhanced. Furthermore, they will be able to work collaboratively on AI projects in healthcare.

More Details

The course will be delivered through pre-recorded lectures (~1 hour of content delivered as 4 videos, each of 15 minutes duration) released every week, allowing participants to learn at their convenience. It will include weekly online contact sessions (1 hour duration) comprising a summary of the lecture material, tutorials on the material covered in the video lectures, Q&A, and live demonstrations of case studies. Demonstrations of simple AI applications relevant to healthcare will be included during the contact sessions. Participants are expected to study for 3 hours per week. The course videos will also include short quizzes and assignments to complete before the contact sessions. A post-course assessment will measure learning outcomes.

The course structure contains four modules: -

  • Module 1: Introduction to Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Healthcare
  • Module 2: Basics of Machine and Deep Learning (ML & DL)
  • Module 3: Clinical Applications
  • Module 4: Ethics and Governance of AI

Upon satisfactory completion of lectures, contact sessions, and assessments, a certificate of course completion will be issued jointly by NAMS and IIIT-H.
