This month’s AI Pe Charcha as a part of RAISE 2021 was held on May 28. It was a special session as it was also planned in line with INDIAai’s one-year completion, and the session witnessed a fireside chat among Mr. Nandan Nilekani, Co-founder and Non-executive chairman, Infosys, Mr. Ajay Sawhney, Secretary, MeitY and Ms. Debjani Ghosh, President, NASSCOM on the theme ‘Making India a global leader for AI. 

National AI Portal (https://indiaai.gov.in) was launched as the central hub for everything AI in India and beyond on May 30, 2020, by the Hon’ble Minister of Electronics and IT. The portal has been enriched by the dedicated efforts of Central and State Government organizations, Industry and Academia. These can be seen in terms of 612 articles, 443 national & international news items, listing 256 startups, 23 investment funds, 118 colleges, 76 case studies, 55 research reports, 156 videos, 100+ AI initiatives from the Government organizations, datasets, and AI standards.

The session was hosted by Mr. Abhishek Singh, CEO MyGov; President & CEO NeGD; MD & CEO Digital India Corporation (DIC) at Govt of India. The theme for this month’s was ‘Implementing Trustworthy AI Solutions’, which consisted of a keynote from the global AI thought leaders and a demonstration cum presentation on AI-based solutions. 

Mr. Singh expressed his gratitude to Infosys, which was the knowledge partner for the session. The insightful edition had the AI team from Infosys and demonstrated various in-progress projects in line with more AI involvement in various industries and segments. 

The informative session started with Mr. Karthik Neelakandan, Associate VP, India Head-Sales & Client Services at Infosys Ltd. He stressed on several critical principles of AI such as responsible, ethical, human-centeredness, transparency, explainability. He conveyed that these parameters will fine-tune the projects for better long-term impact and better AI inclusion in every sector.

The discussion was further enriched with interesting thoughts by Dr. Ravi KR GVV, Head of Advanced Engineering Group, Infosys, Mr. Thirumala Arohi, VP & Head of Training & Assessment, Infosys Education, and Mr Shyam Doddavula. The team discussed ideas around “Implementing Trustworthy AI Solutions - Education, Training & Assessments”. Mr. Thirumala quoted John Dewey “If we teach today as we taught yesterday, then we rob our children of tomorrow.” Using AI in education will make learning more relevant, convenient, fun, and engaging. 

Infosys is also working on the project of Applied AI@GSTIN, where AI algorithms will help find ticket clusters and bots automate resolution and achieved zero-touch for 25% tickets and (0% reduction in ticket resolution time. The introduction of AI in the project will enable efficiencies, resilience, and more insights. ML algorithms will help find repetitive patterns in tickets with cognitive bots automating repetitive tasks. 

AI-driven insights will help in the detection of tax evasion, revenue assurance, value-added services for taxpayers and will provide statistical insights to policymakers.

Such thorough AI-based solutions encourage students, startups, tech enthusiasts, academia to come forward and bring innovative AI solutions in their respective sectors. 

The presentations and demonstrations were then followed by a QnA where people posted their questions to seek advice, get solutions and perspectives on various AI-related questions. Such presentations and participation truly represent the wave of AI in the country.
