National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) is a project of MHRD initiated by seven Indian Institutes of Technology (Bombay, Delhi, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, Guwahati and Roorkee) along with the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore in 2003. NPTEL aims to provide quality education to anyone interested in learning from the IITs. It offers online courses in engineering basic sciences and selected humanities and social science subjects. The classes will be conducted through the Swayam portal of the Government of India. Four-, eight- or twelve-week online courses typically on topics relevant to students in all years of higher education and introductory core courses in science and humanities with exposure to relevant tools and technologies are offered. The main goal of NPTEL was to create web and video courses in all major branches of engineering and physical sciences at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels and management courses at the postgraduate level. The classes for the students will be taken by professors from respective IITs.

One of the key highlights of the program is that from enrolment to learning, these courses are free of cost. NTPEL have opened and started its enrolment for July- December semester. Mentioned following the courses they provide on AI and related subjects.

  • Applied Accelerated Artificial Intelligence: This post-graduate-level course will cover the basics of computing capabilities and the system software required for implementing AI-based solutions for industrial use. The course is intended for PhD Scholars in any stream of science or engineering; Post Graduate Students (any stream of Science or Engineering); 3rd and 4th year UG Students (any stream of Engineering); Non-Students, and Working Professionals. The students should have Prior knowledge of Computer Organization, Computing, Machine Learning and Deep learning is desirable. The course, which is expected to commence on 25th July 2022, will be of a twelve-week duration.
  • Artificial Intelligence: Search Methods for Problem-solving: In this course on AI, various search methods that agents can employ for problem-solving are taught. Offered by IIT Madras, this is the first course on AI, which is intended for UG and PG students studying Computer Science. The course is open to anyone comfortable with talking about algorithms. This 12-week course, which will commence on 25th July 2022, has industry support from companies like Microsoft, Google, Facebook, Ford, Amazon, Flipkart etc.
  • Fundamentals Of Artificial Intelligence: This course offered by IIT Guwahati is intended for final year B.Tech, M.Tech and PhD students. This course aims to present an overview of the principles and practices of AI to address such complex real-world problems. In addition, the course is designed to develop a basic understanding of problem-solving, knowledge representation, reasoning and learning methods of AI.
  • Natural Language Processing: Offered by IIT Kharagpur, this course starts with the basics of text processing, including basic pre-processing, spelling correction, language modelling, Part-of-Speech tagging, Constituency and Dependency Parsing, Lexical Semantics, distributional Semantics and topic models. The students should have a basic knowledge of probabilities for the lectures and python for programming assignments. The course has industry support from Microsoft Research, Google, Adobe, Xerox, Flipkart, and Amazon.
  • Deep Learning - IIT Ropar: This course will teach about the building blocks used in these Deep Learning based solutions. Students are taught about feedforward neural networks, convolutional neural networks, recurrent neural networks and attention mechanisms. Various optimization algorithms such as Gradient Descent, Nesterov Accelerated Gradient Descent, Adam, AdaGrad and RMSProp, used for training such deep neural networks, will also be looked at. At the end of this course, students would know the deep architectures used for solving various Vision and NLP tasks.
  • Deep Learning for Computer Vision: This course will introduce the students to traditional computer vision topics before presenting deep learning methods for computer vision. The course will cover basics and recent advancements in these areas, which will help the student learn the basics and become proficient in applying these methods to real-world applications. The students are expected to be senior undergraduate and postgraduate students.
