Have you ever wondered what someone else is thinking? Who has not, right? The power to control a person's mind gives us authority. There are several theories dealing with controlling the thought process of the human brain. These days, media is one of the most significant factors that firmly hold over a person's mind. What if machines gain this power? Do you think it will change the world for good?

TAIPEI- an AI institute in Hefei, China, says it has developed software that can gauge the loyalty of Communist Party members. If true, this innovation would be considered a breakthrough. We can seek positive outcomes from a novel innovation. At the same time, it can produce negative repercussions. It is solely on the intuition of the users that the results lie. According to analysts, China has improved its AI-powered Surveillance, using big data, machine learning, facial recognition and AI to get into the brains and minds of the people.

On July 1st, the institute posted a video called "The Smart Political Education Bar” to boast about its mind-reading software. They stated that the model would be used on party members to solidify further their determination to be grateful to the party, listen and follow the party. The online platform VOA reported the story and stated that the post was taken down after an outcry among Chinese Netizens.

Politics with AI

The whole incident has led to an outburst of mistrust among the Chinese. A professor of political science expressed his discontent to VOA that the Communist Party has abused technological advances.

China upgraded from early-day facial recognition to an AI program that tries to get into brains and minds than meet the eye. More than digital repression, this incident can be called a "dictator’s dilemma". It is a term that can be used to explain the failure of a government leader to win the hearts and minds of its people. Government is something that should be built on the trust and support gained by honest efforts.

Last year, authorities in Henan Province reportedly launched a similar system to track "suspicious" journalists, foreign students and women. At the same time, prosecutors in Shangai reportedly adopted AI prosecutors, who can file indictments on eight criminal offences.

Similarly, in an online paper in China, The Paper reported that a communist party school in Sichuan had developed a "Smart Red Cloud". This was able to monitor party members and calculate their loyalty. This was in the year 2017.

Living without fear

Incidents like these will surely put us into a mass frenzy. But it is essential to understand that every coin has two sides. The users must bring the best out of what they have. Several rights lawyers and activists had opened up to VOA that they had fell victims to China's digital surveillance system. A Beijing lawyer stated that he could not post online due to China's tight censorship.

On the other hand, it is essential to know that AI is making the world a better place. It aids us in leading a simpler life, enhances accessibility, and ensures protection. The political use of AI is indeed a grave issue. But it is essential to understand that such a governance model will lead a society to its extremes and result in the collapse of the leadership in the long run.
