The government of India hosted RAISE 2020- a global AI summit, organised by the Ministry of Electronics and IT. The event was held from October 5 to October 9, 2020, virtually. The RAISE 2020 summit was formulated to reiterate the country's commitment towards embracing Artificial Intelligence technology especially as a tool for economic empowerment and social inclusion. It also provided as a platform for the exchange of ideas that will help India accomplish over half a trillion-dollar in GDP growth in the next five years through AI. 

The summit was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. He stressed on the need for bridging human emotions and intuition with raw cognitive powers of AI, to solve numerous social and economic challenges. The Prime Minister also pointed out his desire to make India a global hub for AI as well as possibilities of using AI for optimal management of assists and resources.

RAISE 2020 summit consisted of 48 sessions of 85 hours with 320 high-quality keynote speakers and panellists from 21 countries. These sessions covered many critical topics such as responsible AI, governance of AI, education and skilling, data market, the role of NLP in bridging language barriers, the role of AI in healthcare, global partnerships and many more. The summit also featured key AI developments from many of the government departments such as C-DAC (Centre for  Development of Advanced Computing) and NIC (National Informatics Centre), as well as states such as Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. 

In terms audience, the event had close to eighty thousand registrations from 147 with close to forty thousand participating directly from the virtual event platform and many more attending the event through live streaming through social media platforms. The event also consisted of AI Challenge, which saw the participation of 299 Start-ups, out of which, 21 top start-ups were selected for Start-up Pitch Fest during the event.

The scale and quality of RAISE 2020 were unprecedented for any other AI virtual summit. The event brought together the policymakers, AI experts, thinkers, influencers, practitioners, and young minds from India and abroad at a common platform, drew their attention and focus to India. It delivered the world the message that AI for the public good and inclusive development is the viewpoint of India, that hosts 1 billion+ people, i.e. one-sixth human habitats on earth and is the fast-growing economy in the world. Global Partnership on AI, wherein, India is one of the founding members endorsed the viewpoints of India on Artificial Intelligence while national and International representatives supported the viewpoints of India and promised continued support in future too. RAISE 2020 not only established the brand India in the global AI space but also showed the world that technologies matter only when it used to empower the people.
