It was during Microsoft Build 2024 that Microsoft announced the Team Copilot, which can lurk inside Microsoft Teams calls and chats only after being given access by a host. This can help you and your colleagues with your needs and those of your colleagues during the meeting.

Since its launch, Copilot has gained many attractions. Leveraging modern AI and LLMs like OpenAI’s GPT-4, Copilot across Microsoft products has backed its users in complex tasks, serving as a personal, behind-the-scenes AI assistant. Copilot is Microsoft’s answer to AI personal assistants like Google’s Gemini.

According to Microsoft, Team Copilot expands Copilot for Microsoft 365 from a behind-the-scenes personal AI assistant to a new, valuable member of your team. Users will be able to call on Copilot while collaborating in Teams, Loop, Planner, etc.

Given below are seven essential tasks Team Copilot can do for you.

Summarise meetings

Team Copilot is available upon invitation from a host to provide a summary of Microsoft Teams meetings. Throughout the conversation, it can record notes. Additionally, Team Copilot’s outline is editable by everyone, so your colleagues can add or remove any notes at any time.

Manage follow-up tasks

As per the Microsoft Teams discussion, Team Copilot can suggest post-discussion activities like follow-up tasks to ensure everyone stays on the same page. For instance, it can suggest setting up a follow-up meeting with your colleague.

Tracking time

Team Copilot can be the saviour when it comes to spending too much time on a single topic. Team Copilot acts as a meeting facilitator and can ensure the meeting maintains a structured time for each topic on the agenda.

A group moderator

Team Copilot can interact with team members in Microsoft Team chats to assist them with their goals. Additionally, it can provide highlights from the chat, search the web for users, answer questions on the discussions, and more.

Responds to questions on shared files

As per the examples shared during Build 2024, Team Copilot can answer users’ questions in a chat based on the shared documents. It will effortlessly sift through the shared files and provide instant answers.

A project manager

Team Copilot is able to act as a project manager in Planner. It can create tasks and goals for co-workers and assign several to team members. It helps ensure every project runs smoothly and notifies the team when their input is needed.

Offers advice on tasks

Team Copilot can also act as a source of counsel for users. For example, Team Copilot can advise users to read their draft and suggest a new one with comments.

Microsoft opined that these initial experiences, coming in preview later this year, will enable users to learn, iterate, and refine as we enter a new phase of innovation in which Copilot begins to take more action on behalf of individuals and teams.
