Artificial Intelligence has undergone an unprecedented surge across all sectors, mainly after the pandemic. As per recent research, 24% of organisations have increased their investments in AI and AI adoption has seized the education sector by storm. Several online platforms and AI-powered tools are gaining prominence as the traditional models of education are getting outdated.
Harnessing the power of emotional AI in the educational sector is effective as it is much more capable of assessing the learner’s state with greater certainty than humans. Since it is non-human, the chances of bias are low to an extent. Hence, it leads to a transformative shift in education driven by the need to cater to personalised learning styles and needs.
The traditional one-size-fits-all approach in education is becoming outdated faster. Each of the students has unique strengths and weaknesses. Emotional AI is poised to revolutionise the educational sector by offering a personalised learning experience. Integrating emotional AI into students’ learning techniques with AI-enhanced classrooms can overthrow traditional methods. Yash Prakash, Co-Founder of AcadAlly, tells India Today in an interview how emotional AI helps embrace personalised learning in India.
Real-time behaviour monitoring
AI-integrated systems are able to easily observe students’ interactions and monitor their behaviour with educational content. Such AI-powered systems can quickly identify patterns like when a student struggles with studies, loses interest or excels in studies and subsequently provide personalised recommendations.
Emotional state tracking
AI systems can track students’ emotional states using sensors and algorithms. Using them, we can detect emotions like confusion, frustration, etc. AI can offer tailored solutions while addressing the emotional needs of students with this abundant information they possess.
Non-judgmental support
AI-powered chatbots and virtual allies can be considered as non-judgmental companions for students. Unlike real-life peer groups, these AI tools can provide unconditional support and encouragement, without bias, to foster a sense of accomplishment while minimising boredom and frustration.
Cultural sensitivity
These AI systems are designed to be sensitive to cultural diversities and respect cultural nuances. This feature makes sure that the personalised education put forward is inclusive and relevant to students from different cultures and backgrounds as well.
Integrating emotional AI into our educational sector gives us various advantages. This technique strengthens educators with much deeper insights into the emotional and psychological aspects of learning. This enables the implementation of robust teaching plans.
Furthermore, this technique helps us address the problems faced by students, like disengagement and high dropout rates, by actively recognising and addressing emotional roadblocks in learning. Additionally, the information collected by these AI systems can build a broad learning database for any subject by going beyond geographical and user limitations. The students will get access to abundant educational content despite their limitations like location or background. This can be considered as the democratisation of education by breaking the barriers to learning and ensuring equitable access for all.
Emotional AI has immense potential in education. While traditional education models give way to more inclusive, adaptable and tech-based approaches, the AI tools that harness the power of emotional intelligence are now at the forefront of this transformation. The more educational institutions adopt emotional AI, the more there will be benefits in personalised learning.
