Yahoo News has launched a new news app that will provide users with a more tailored experience to keep informed about the topics that are most important to them. More user-friendly than before, the experience is customised for every user to assist them in sorting through the daily headlines and navigating the confusion. A customisable feed, top stories and articles’ main takeaways, tools for simple sharing, and the option to flag headlines as clickbait are among the new elements that create a personalised news experience that improves with time.

Yahoo News stated that it has been attempting to improve the daily experience of keeping up to date with the most recent headlines due to significant changes in how consumers see and consume news over the past few years. Hundreds of millions of users worldwide rely on Yahoo News as a reliable source of information.

Yahoo News, the leading platform for news and information, provides users free access to the most recent news on various topics, including breaking, local, and national news, entertainment, and lifestyle. Yahoo News also includes original reporting and aggregated content from over a thousand premium publishers.

Yahoo acquired the AI-powered news aggregation and discovery platform Artifact in April 2024. This unique mobile app allows users to catch up quickly or delve deeper while viewing more of what is essential and helpful to them in one spot. Its AI-powered personalisation engine and other features have been crucial to its development.

Features of the news app

  • An AI-Powered Personalised Feed: Users can select topics and publishers that matter most to them, and powerful technology will tailor their feed to their unique interests. This may be done by selecting specific publications or categories like Entertainment, Tech, Health, Politics, Movies, Travel, or Art and Design, to name a few.
  • Top Stories and Trending Topic Summaries: The app also spotlights Top Stories, a guide to the day’s trending news topics worldwide. Rolling out in just a couple of weeks, AI-powered takeaways will be featured on each trending topic, allowing readers to catch up more quickly on trending news of the moment.
  • Key Takeaways: Users can quickly access the critical elements of a story with succinct, AI-generated key points that automatically populate the top of nearly every article within the app.
  • Block Keywords and Flag Clickbait: While users can see more of what they want and better control their overall experience, the new app will also offer users the ability to block certain keywords or publishers and flag headlines as clickbait, which will then be automatically rewritten.
  • Sharing Tools: Users can seamlessly share excerpts from articles directly from the app through an easy one-touch sharing option.
  • Badges and Streaks: A fun way to stay up-to-date and improve the reading experience, readers can reach different reading streaks and unlock badges, which they can share with friends.

According to Yahoo, they will provide a new homepage experience with a more dynamic layout that showcases the most recent news, tailored suggestions, and current affairs in real-time. This will provide users with helpful methods to view what other people read, search, and share on the internet. Because the new homepage will continue to change over time, users can opt-in.

With additional options for readers to interact with the news in a relevant, helpful, and additive way, this is a significant turning point in Yahoo News’ history. Users in the US with iOS and Android devices can now download the Yahoo News app.
