As an initiative of the Narendra Modi government, the Army Design Bureau (ADB) was established in August 2016. The ADB was tasked with promoting research and development and acting as a bridge between the Army and the private sector to meet defence requirement. The Chinese language barrier is one of the 130th key problems identified by the ADB its reports.
In 2018, the Indian Army asked for help from the Indian tech industry to solve the language problem through the development of a Chinese auto translator. Cogknit Semantics Private Limited, a Bengaluru-based company, came up with a solution that can help the Indian Army to leap over the language barrier.
It is a 100% indigenous solution and a next-generation AI product, that can automatically carry out the translation. This would require only a headset and a tablet that translates Chinese languages into English or Hindi in real-time. This product does not require any internet connectivity.
The new tool finally will help the Army in implementing effective communication on the eastern border with China. Furthermore, military researchers and strategic affairs analysts in the field of China studies on the Indian Army will also become recipients of this tool. It will also help in conducting joint exercises in a better way.
