Developed in collaboration with the International Energy Agency (IEA), this casebook presents 15 real-world deployments of AI across areas such as smart grid optimisation, renewable energy integration, demand forecasting, and energy efficiency. These use cases demonstrate how AI can help balance increasing electricity consumption, especially from data centres and AI systems themselves, while advancing climate goals.
The need for such solutions is particularly urgent in a world navigating the dual challenge of decarbonisation and digital expansion. AI offers the ability to process complex, real-time data, enabling more adaptive and responsive energy systems that reduce waste and improve reliability.
Through practical examples and measurable impact, the casebook highlights how AI is being applied not just to optimise existing systems, but to reimagine how energy is produced, distributed, and consumed. It provides valuable insights for policymakers, energy providers, and technology leaders working to align innovation with sustainability and long-term energy security.
We extend our sincere appreciation to leadership provided by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and Ministry of Power, and the partnership of the IEA for advancing responsible AI in the energy sector. Together, these efforts reaffirm AI as a critical enabler of a secure and sustainable energy future.
