Developed in partnership with UN Women, this casebook highlights 23 impactful AI driven solutions that address challenges across women’s health, safety, financial inclusion, and livelihoods. Featuring use cases from the Global South, it demonstrates how AI can be designed and deployed to respond to context-specific gender gaps while delivering measurable outcomes.
The casebook also acknowledges the dual nature of AI in gender contexts. While it can accelerate inclusion, it can also reinforce biases if not designed responsibly. As such, it places strong emphasis on ethical AI development, inclusive data practices, and gender-responsive design frameworks.
By documenting real-world applications that are both scalable and socially grounded, the casebook offers a pathway for stakeholders to harness AI as a tool for equitable growth. It is intended for policymakers, practitioners, and ecosystem leaders seeking to embed gender inclusion into the core of technological innovation.
We extend our sincere appreciation to the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India for their leadership, and to UN Women for their steadfast partnership in advancing responsible and gender-responsive AI. Together, these collective efforts reaffirm that AI, when developed and deployed responsibly, ethically and inclusively, can serve as a powerful instrument for bridging the gender divide and advancing global equity.
