Funding

As good as 1.4 billion Norwegian kroner (NOK) go into research, innovation and advanced use of ICT in the Research Council of Norway. Funding for artificial intelligence, robotics and information handling has increased drastically in the last few years.However, private investments in AI research is significant. For example, Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP) Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP) is a Swedish research institution funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation who also aims to recruit outstanding international researchers and to enhance competence in Sweden.

In September 2023, the Norwegian Prime Minister and the Minister of Research and Higher Education announced increased investment in AI research by 1 billion NOK for the next 5 years. The investment will enhance Norway's understanding of how technological advancements affect society's outcomes and impacts.
