In June 2019, the Indian Institute of Technology - Banaras Hindu University (IIT-BHU) and Amazon Internet Services Private Limited (AISPL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop cloud-ready job skills by providing access to the AWS educate program and help to establish a cloud research lab on AI and ML. The cloud research lab will provide students with opportunities to use AWS cloud technology to pursue research initiatives that focus on AI and ML innovation in India. Amazon will provide essential free services in cloud computing, datasets, and other new technologies that empower students and faculties to do better and focused research. This collaboration will accelerate cloud-related technical expertise for students and boost readiness to undertake the industry-recognized certifications.

Operation Digital Board

In February 2019, the Union HRD Minister launched Operation Digital Board to utilize emerging technologies in promoting quality education in India. Operation Digital Board is a revolutionary step which will make the learning as well as the teaching process interactive and popularize flipped learning as a pedagogical approach. Digital boards will be introduced in government and government-aided schools across the country for class 9 onwards in the upcoming 2019-20 academic session. Such boards will also be available in higher education institutions. Machine learning, AI, and data analytics will be employed to provide personalized adaptive learning as well as intelligent tutoring to suit individual student needs. The government expects that the spread of educational technology and connectivity will ensure equity in educational standards in India.

In February 2019, IIT-Kharagpur, IIT-Madras, IIIT-Kancheepuram, NIT Silchar, and NIT Bhopal set up centres for AI. Most of these higher educational institutions offer various AI-related courses such as deep learning foundations and applications, foundations of AI and ML, reinforcement learning, probabilistic reasoning in AI, predictive and prescriptive data analytics, deep learning, system identification, cyber-physical security, digital image processing, etc. The acts and statutes governing institutions allow to have academic and research collaboration with institutions and universities across the world in various fields.

Ministry of Education launches ‘AI For All’

The Ministry of Education joined hands with the chip-making giant Intel and Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to announce the launch of - 'AI for All' - an initiative that aims to create a basic understanding of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for all Indian citizens.
Intel has launched a special, 4-hour-long self-paced learning module that explains AI, suitable for a novice audience in 11 Indian languages - be it a student, a middle-aged professional or even a senior citizen! The program (https://ai-for-all.in/#/home?ref=CBSE) aims to enable one million citizens to understand the basics of AI in its first year.
The 4-hour-course has two parts - AI awareness and AI appreciation. At the end of each stage, participants will be given personalised digital badges that can be shared on social media, the company said.
Budget
The government launched a ₹9,000 crore initiative to digitize education delivery in state-run schools and colleges. Digital boards will be implemented over the next three years beginning 2019-20 academic year.
The Bengaluru’s state government has set aside a sum of ₹5 crore for setting up the centre which is being established on the recommendation of Karnataka Knowledge Commission (KKC).
₹1000 crore budget has been allotted to all public institutions selected as ‘Institution of Eminence’.
