Justice L.Narasimha Reddy, Chairman, Central Administrative Tribunal, Principal Bench, Delhi on Monday said that “Artificial Intelligence should not be used as a tool for human replacement. A human element is necessary to deal with humans, and for strategic planning as a person could be unpredictable,” while speaking on Artificial Intelligence (AI) role in society at a whole, and especially in the Indian legal system.
Speaking at a webinar hosted by The Federation of Telangana Chambers of Commerce and Industry, on the topic ‘Artificial Intelligence in Law’, he said, “In order for AI technologies to be truly transformative in a positive way, we need a set of ethical norms, standards and practical methodologies to ensure that we use AI responsibly and to the benefit of humanity.”
Justice Reddy also commended the possibilities presented by AI by saying, “AI could be a great development enhancing tool. The rise of artificial intelligence will make most people better off over the next decade, but many have concerns about how advances could impact human beings.”
Sai Sushanth, CEO, Sushanth IT Law Associated shared the possibilities in the legal system, that could be exploited by AI. He offered that AI can be used to deploy the justice dispensation system and in commercial claims, mechanical process and legal nuances. He also said that while the whole world readily embraced AI, the Indian legal system too should follow suit at AI adaptation will reduce pendency.
Ramakanth Inani, President, FTCC observed how AI is already playing a crucial role in our daily lives, albeit at nominal levels. “AI is impacting our lives in a positive manner and is taking part in our daily issues as a reminder for meetings, suggesting articles and news of interest. In the near future, its impact is likely to spread to the entire database of industries,” he said.
