To monitor and track the spread of pandemic COVID 19, Engineering conglomerate Larsen and Toubro is betting on AI. With L&T’s digital platform, the company is supporting local authorities in 20 cities to implement measures to fight the spread of Coronavirus.

In cities including Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Prayagraj, Ahmedabad, Visakhapatnam, and Hyderabad, the company has partnered with municipal authorities and police agencies in arranging the technology and managing the command and control centres and city operations.

L&T’s smart technology solutions, including AI, are assisting local administration in monitoring crowds, tracking patients, communicating with the public, and to help manage law and order.

AM Naik, Group Chairman, Larsen & Toubro, stated: “L&T is helping India’s fight against COVID-19 through a range of activities including funding, welfare initiatives and leveraging our engineering and construction expertise to help the authorities deal with the crisis.”

Artificial intelligence and crowd formation analytics is used to send real-time alerts at the police command centre, which will help the authorities to disperse the crowd through field officers in Hyderabad and Mumbai. L&T is also working on implementing new solutions like chatbot based emergency pass system in Telangana and drone-based surveillance for crowd formation and fever detection using thermal cameras at Mumbai.

SN Subrahmanyan, L&T’s chief executive officer and managing director, said that L&T Smart World & Communication has been working with various city administrations and state governments to effectively manage complex civic functions in metropolitan cities. “With its ability to seamlessly integrate various smart technologies to manage surveillance, crowd management, message delivery and communication to the residing populace, L&T is supporting the transformation of city civic administrations,” he added.

Many cities globally are now effectively using various artificial intelligence-based healthcare and monitoring solutions for population screening, tracking positive patients, allocating resources and managing healthcare and hospitals resources.
