Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar mentioned that the country’s architecture would become further more sophisticated in the future with the involvement of the Artificial Intelligence layer in it.

While addressing the first India Stack Developers conference, he said, “What we have now is just India Stack 1.0 version. It will evolve and become more sophisticated and nuanced”. He added that “the smart dataset programme will soon be launched. There will also be an AI layer built into the stack.”

The conference was conducted to bring together the developer community, start-ups, corporates and foreign governments who are inspired by the India Stack and wish to adopt digital public goods like Aadhaar, United Payments Interface and Digilocker.

Senior officials from Aadhaar, GeM (Government e-marketplace), Diksha, a public ed-tech initiative and Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission gave a presentation on the strategies of each platform.

Saurabh Garg, the CEO of Aadhaar, mentioned the impact of the biometric identification system in our country that made more than 134 crores sign up till now and handles around 7.5 crores of daily transactions. The transactions involve e-authentication by various organisations such as fintech, banks and other Aadhaar-enabled payment services.

Another astonishing fact is that one of the GeM officials claimed, with a record transaction of 2 lakh crore in FY22, the e-commerce platform has overtaken the top two privately operated counterparts. Over the next few years, it is expected to hit rupees 3 lakh crores of e-commerce transactions.

While delivering the speech at the conference, the President of NASSCOM, Debjani Ghosh, asserted that India is the only country developing a citizen-centric digital economy. She reminisces about the time when India had a 17% bank account penetration in 2008. At that time, studies predicted that Indian bank accounts would take almost 46 years to reach 80%. Nevertheless, the target was reached within six years.
