According to a report by PTI, G C Murmu, the comptroller and auditor general of India (CAG), stated on Tuesday that AI would be a game-changer in the public audit domain since it will enable faster and more detailed analysis during both the planning and execution phases.

During an address to the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and Supreme Audit Institutions (SAI) Leaders meeting, at which eight high-ranking SCO delegates were present, CAG stated that the potential benefits of applying AI techniques to audit processes are substantial and have been identified through multiple use cases. The meeting addressed cyber security, AI, and SCO auditors.

"Our intention is not to use AI as a one-time solution for a specific audit, but rather to develop an AI model that will enable faster and more detailed analysis during both the planning and execution phases through risk assessment spanning multiple parameters and a far more thorough evaluation than sampling," he said in a statement.

Given the transition to electronic processing and computerized systems in public sector organizations, Murmu reportedly emphasized that it is again essential for SAIs to develop the skills necessary to analyze information system controls.

According to the report he stated, "As discussed by SAI India in this discussion, our cybersecurity audit teams focus on numerous critical areas/including third-party management, governance aspects, documentation, user access restrictions, and legal compliance."
