According to a survey conducted by D2L, a global learning technology company, titled, “Teaching and learning in India reimagined”, around 44% of teachers in India are concerned about the influence of Artificial Intelligence in teaching and assessment. The findings for the survey were collected anonymously from various educators in higher education institutions around the country. The survey shed lights on the increase in level of consciousness regarding the edtech and the penetration of AI-powered learning platforms among teaching community in the Indian higher education sector.
This survey also emphasised the rise in demand of edtech platforms and learning management systems in HEIs for which, better training for teaching faculty and strategies use of AI is demanded. The report shows almost all respondents were familiar and comfortable with hybrid learning techniques, highlighting their rising popularity in India, specifically after the pandemic hit.
The hybrid learning promotes face-to-face and online teaching into one cohesive experience. It enables learners to learn everything as per their preferences. This kind of learning approach promotes a student-centric learning experience with better flexibility and personalisation, the release read. Regarding a question whether the respondents integrated large language models into the teaching methods, 33% of respondents shared their opinion that they partially integrated such models while 38% of respondents talked against it. At the same 11% said that they are in the process of integrating the models while 16% were not sure about what these models are or how they can integrate them in teaching methods.
Likewise, 50% of teachers opined that LMSs are enhancing collaboration and communication and are playing a significant role in improving the learning and assessment experiences. About 50% confirmed that the integration of LLM models in education will help in more equitable learning opportunities for all students across the country.
