Ever since the launch in November, we have been watching the extraordinary possibilities of ChatGPT. From students to artists, people have been exploring the chatbot asking their queries on topics around the globe. Various discussions have been made on how the chatbot will transform the education sector with its impeccable knowledge about every topic. The unbeatable journey of ChatGPT has even surpassed a few milestones after clearing prestigious Wharton tests to law exams. Everything went smoothly until the chatbot attended the UPSC prelims.

Analytics India Magazine reported that ChatGPT failed to clear the UPSC prelims scoring only 54 out of 100. The magazine tested ChatGPT with questions from Set A of UPSC prelims 2022. The AI chatbot failed to pass 87.54% cutoff, which was for the general category UPSC aspirants as per the 2021 cutoff, said the magazine.

OpenAI’s sensational chatbot could not answer the questions explicitly from History, Science, Economics, Geography and even current affairs. When the magazine asked if ChatGPT could clear the UPSC prelims, it replied that though it knows various subject areas, we need critical thinking and time management to clear UPSC. However, the chatbot didn’t give a specific answer on whether it could pass the test.

The report says that because of its knowledge bank limit to 2021, the bot could not answer questions involving current affairs. In some cases, the bot even created options not provided in the test. Though various questions related to Geography were not time-specific, the bot failed to answer them. Surprisingly, the same chatbot has cracked the prestigious Wharton exam and law exams at the University of Minnesota. The Indian Civil Service Examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission is considered the toughest exam in India, with almost 11-12 lakh students attending it every year, and among them, only 5% pass to the mains.
