The landscape of digital interaction is rapidly evolving, with AI avatars emerging as a transformative force in marketing, content creation, and entertainment. These AI-powered digital personas, capable of engaging audiences with human-like interactivity, are redefining the way brands and individuals communicate in virtual spaces. Recognizing the vast potential of this technology, the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, in collaboration with Avtr Meta Labs, has launched the AI Avatar Creator Challenge—a pioneering initiative designed to explore and expand the possibilities of AI avatars.
The AI Avatar Creator Challenge is a key part of the Create in India Challenge Season 1, under WAVES (World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit) Pillar 2, which focuses on AVGC-XR (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality). With an impressive 1,251 participants, including 102 international entrants, this competition highlights India's growing influence in AI-driven creative industries.
The event is set to take place from May 1-4, 2025, at the Jio World Convention Centre and Jio World Gardens in Mumbai, further solidifying India's position as a global hub for innovation in Media & Entertainment (M&E). With the AI Avatar Creator Challenge falling under the AVGC-XR pillar, the event will showcase cutting-edge advancements in Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), and the Metaverse.
The competition welcomes participants above the age of 18, with a valid ID for verification. The challenge is open to global creators, and multiple AI avatar submissions are allowed, provided each entry is:
To participate, individuals must register exclusively through the Avtr Meta Labs website by clicking on the “Register Interest” button and submitting key details such as name, contact information, concept, and purpose of their AI Avatar. The deadline for submission is February 28, 2025.
An expert panel will evaluate entries based on three key criteria:
A points-based system will be used to assess each entry, with the Top 10 contestants shortlisted for the final round. The Top 3 finalists will be invited to present their work at WAVES 2025, offering them an exclusive opportunity to showcase their projects to industry leaders and investors.
The winner will be awarded a cash prize of INR 100,000, while all Top 10 entries will receive an official certificate of participation from the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting. Additionally, selected AI avatars may be featured in press, marketing campaigns, and social media promotions, amplifying their reach and influence.
