During a special AI session organized for the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) at South Block, Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh emphasized the transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in enhancing government efficiency and productivity. This session, attended by senior officials, including the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister and officers from across various ranks, was part of the ongoing "National Learning Week" under Mission Karmayogi—an ambitious initiative designed to upgrade the skills and capacities of India's bureaucratic workforce.

Dr Singh highlighted AI's potential to automate routine government tasks, a development that promises to free up officials to focus on strategic governance areas. He pointed to healthcare, agriculture, and public service delivery sectors, where AI can significantly improve responsiveness and efficiency. Additionally, the session explored AI’s potential in building smart digital and physical infrastructure, which is essential for India's sustainable growth.

A key focus of Dr Singh’s address was the responsible deployment of AI, especially in safeguarding data privacy and security in government functions. He urged the integration of strong cybersecurity measures and emphasized that AI systems must uphold fairness, transparency, and accountability to avoid biases in decision-making. Dr Singh also underlined the ethical considerations surrounding AI use, ensuring that technological advances align with the public welfare.

The session discussed AI’s role in shaping national security, industrial transformation, and economic growth. The call to develop India’s first practical AI data bank was a significant highlight, set to accelerate AI-driven growth over the next decade. The initiative would position India as a leader in practical AI applications while promoting a balanced, human-centric approach to technology development.

As India looks toward 2035 and beyond to 2047, the government focuses on creating an inclusive AI ecosystem that empowers citizens, transforms governance, and promotes equitable development across all sectors. Through Mission Karmayogi, the government is committed to breaking hierarchical barriers, fostering a collaborative learning environment, and equipping its workforce with advanced AI tools for efficient governance.

Dr Jitendra Singh’s closing remarks reaffirmed the government’s dedication to harnessing AI responsibly, ensuring its integration into governance to build a more efficient, transparent, and innovative future for India.
