The Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) comprises 28 member countries, including the European Union. India is a founding member of the Global Platform for Artificial Intelligence (GPAI), a forum that guides artificial intelligence's correct development and application.

The GPAI Summit includes crucial meetings for governing organizations and side events that showcase AI development and allow people to discuss it. The Global AI Expo, seminars, industry panel presentations, the Gamechanger Awards for start-ups, and a research symposium are among the side activities.

Let's look at what's happening on the second day of the GPAI SUMMIT 2023: 12-14 December 2023, New Delhi. 

Side Event 8 - AI Education and Skilling: Bridging the Talent Gap 

The session will concentrate on the numerous implications of AI and factors such as the impact on innovation, SME adoption, and business-to-business commercial processes. Identify mechanisms for cultivating strategic collaborations across enterprises in the AI value chain to investigate ideas for future-proofing trade and commerce, commercial best practices, and commercial best practices adapted to global and local demands. 

Side Event 9 (@ Room No. 18): International AI Regulations: Catalyzing Innovation while Ensuring Safety, Trust and Accountability

The session aims to elicit insights that can help establish a unified AI landscape characterized by growth, accountability, and shared objectives. The following will be the primary goals: 

  • Strengthening international cooperation among GPAI nations to share best practices, ideas, and strategies for AI governance and laws. 
  • Examining the benefits and drawbacks of both sector-specific (vertical) and broad (horizontal) AI governance. 

They are facilitating the establishment of a multi-stakeholder governance framework to promote safety, trust, and accountability by bringing together initiatives from governments, industries, civil society, and academia.

Side Event 17 (@Auditorium 1): Pitch Fest

The AI Pitch Fest is designed to leverage the platform offered by the Annual GPAI Summit to promote financial sustainability and support for GPAI's most significant projects, supporting the notion of Safe and Secure AI for All. The Pitch Fest will allow GPAI experts to pitch their ongoing initiatives to major donor organizations to explore options for collaboration and assistance. The event will link GPAI projects and organizations committed to supporting impactful, Responsible AI work.

Side Event 12 (@ Room No. 6): Mitigating social risks for a safe and resilient society

Continued talks regarding Responsible AI are critical as the world moves toward an AI-powered future. The session's aims in this context are as follows: 

  • Create preliminary guidelines for generative AI's safe, secure, and responsible usage. 
  • Address global imperatives while also tackling regional concerns, particularly those confronting poor countries; 

Make developing and adopting technical standards that ensure responsible and effective AI use a top priority.

The session will concentrate on the numerous implications of AI and factors such as the impact on innovation, SME adoption, and business-to-business commercial processes. Side Event 14 (@Room No. 18): Harnessing the Power of Data Responsibly

The session will go over the necessity of ensuring that data utilized in AI models is reliable and safe, as well as aligning with business principles to reduce bias and hazards. It will also address issues about personal data handling, social media censorship, and exposing the inadequacy of existing legislation using real-world instances.

Side Event 15 (@Room No. 7): AI and Governance: The next Techade of DPIs

The session will unite key stakeholders to explore strategies for developing inclusive and advanced DPIs over the next decade. The following are the session's objectives: 

  • Recognize the critical importance of international collaboration in the democratization of AI. 
  • Address data ownership and governance concerns and the potential for developing and deploying DPI technologies for advancing AI adoption and development. 
  • Deliberating on the role of technology breakthroughs, notably in AI/ML, in designing the future generation of Digital Public Infrastructure. 

Discussing successful case studies and early initiatives to incorporate AI into existing DPIs.

Side Event 16 (@Room No. 6): Applied AI Research and Indigenous Innovation

The session's goal is to present an overview of the most recent trends and advancements in AI research, showcase a variety of AI applications, and debate the social and ethical implications of AI. The session will also promote debate and collaboration among AI researchers and practitioners.

Side Event 18 (@Room No. 7): Neurotechnologies and AI

The session will facilitate a Roundtable/Panel discussion of the UNESCO study on artificial intelligence and neurotechnology. The workshop will bring together professionals to discuss the report's implications, findings, and suggestions.

Side Event 19 (@Room No. 18): AI and Sustainable Agriculture: Towards Global Food Security

The session will cover case studies and examples of successful AI deployment models to identify prospects for harnessing AI advancements for sustainable agriculture in the Global South. It will also investigate the challenges of deploying AI for sustainable agriculture and policy concerns crucial to catalyzing AI innovation for sustainable agriculture.

Side Event 20 (@Room No. 7): Future of Global Governance on AI: Perspectives from UN High-Level Advisory Body on AI

This side event will bring together members of the High-Level Advisory Body on AI to discuss the future of global cooperation and AI governance and how multiple existing projects might converge to provide a cohesive approach to achieving Trustworthy AI.
