Google announced Google DeepMind as part of its increased effort to lead the AI race.

The union of the two organisations is intended to accelerate progress towards a "world in which AI can assist in resolving humanity's greatest challenges."

In a recent interview with 60 Minutes, Google's CEO Sundar Pichai noted that the revolution would arrive sooner than expected. And, to keep up with the rapid tempo, Google announced Google DeepMind on Thursday. It is the latest attempt by Alphabet Inc. to enhance its artificial intelligence research and development.

DeepMind and the Google Research Brain division have merged to form Google DeepMind. The union of the two organisations is intended to accelerate progress towards a "world in which AI can assist in resolving humanity's greatest challenges."

In a release, DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis said, "By collaborating closely with our outstanding colleagues across all of Google's Product Areas, we have a real opportunity to create AI research and products."

On the other hand, according to Pichai, advancements are occurring more quickly than ever. "To guarantee the bold and responsible development of general AI, we are establishing a unit that will assist us in constructing more capable systems more safely and reliably. According to Pichai's statement, this organisation, dubbed Google DeepMind, will unite two major AI research teams.

Pichai says that putting the best people from Google Brain and DeepMind on one focused team with access to powerful computers will significantly speed up the company's progress in AI. In the official release, Pichai also said that Google had worked hard to improve its AI products, like Search, Gmail, YouTube, and the camera in Pixel phones. His words showed how much more committed the search giant was to AI innovations.

Hassabis said, "The amazing Brain and DeepMind teams laid a lot of the groundwork for the current AI industry, from deep reinforcement learning to transformers. The work we will be doing as part of this new combined unit will lead to the next wave of world-changing breakthroughs."
