Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) to use Artificial Intelligence technologies to carry out pilot studies for Optimization of Crop Cutting Experiments (CCEs) in various States. The studies will also use satellite data and modelling tools for reducing the number of CCEs required for insurance unit level for yield estimation.

The studies were taken to address a significant issue of the need to carry out a large number of CCEs for calculation of yield data vis-à-vis claims at Gram Panchayat level. The results are being evaluated for providing recommendations for their implementation in the upcoming seasons.

"AI can be used in multiple domains of agriculture such as weather, crop and price forecasting, and yield estimation," said Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.

"Under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, the government has carried out many pilot studies for optimization of crop cutting experiments, in which AI was used to optimization and yield estimation," added the minister.
