Hyderabad police have installed 330 cameras across Greater Hyderabad, which includes the limits of Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda cities to ensure that the lockdowns are effectively carried out amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Artificial Intelligence (AI) supported cameras are enabled with Deep Learning (DL) based analytics for crowd control. The technology developed by Larsen and Turbo’s L&T Smart World and Communication triggers real-time alerts at the police command centre if more than five people come under the surveillance cameras. The police chief said this was how the most lockdown violation prone areas were brought into control.
To control the vehicular movement in Greater Hyderabad, the city administration has issued an order asking people to restrict their movements within a 3-km radius from their residence. In order to enforce this order, the Hyderabad police have deployed the already existing Machine Learning based Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system, another technology developed by L&T. The ANPR is constantly monitoring vehicle locations and automatically alerts the officials when a vehicle closes the 3-km limit. Through the integration of Regional Transport Authority’s database vehicle owners are identified aiding officials to issue a warning.
