According to a recent report by LinkedIn, number of LinkedIn profiles citing skills in Artificial Intelligence has increased 14 times in the past seven years in India, placing the country among the top five in the world with emerging talent for the technology.
As per the first Future of Work: State of Work @ AI of LinkedIn, it said India, Singapore, Finland, Ireland and Canada have the fastest rate of AI skills adoption. It extends beyond the technology to various industries such as education, financial and retail services.
Over the last year, around 43% of the Indian workforce has encountered the wide use of AI in their organisations. This increase in AI adoption has encouraged around 60% of all workers and 71 % of Gen Z professionals to identify that attaining AI skills can improve their career prospects. Two among three Indians say they will learn at least one digital skill in 2023, among which AI and Machine Learning are the top skills they wish to learn.
The report found that in 25 countries, the number of LinkedIn members who added AI skills to their profiles has doubled after the arrival of ChatGPT, which rose from 7.7 % in May- November 2022 to 13% in November 2022-June 2023. In India, soft skills like creativity and communication are significant in the time of AI, as per the report. Almost 91% of top executives identified the surge in significance of AI skills, exceeding the global average of 72%.
Moreover, a majority of Indian workers agree with the statement that 7 in 10 professionals think soft skills like creativity and problem-solving help them bring a better perspective on work. The top professionals with skills that generative AI could augment are software engineers, customer service representatives and salespersons.
