The recently published Peak’s inaugural Decision Intelligence (DI) Maturity Index found that while the US was an early leader in AI, India is now a more mature market when it comes to readying its business to adopt AI. The report, developed in partnership with the Center for Economics and Business Research (CEBR), recognizes that the path to commercial AI maturity is more nuanced than current AI maturity models suggest.

The US was an early leader in AI, with 28% of US businesses adopting the technology over six years, compared to 25% in India and 20% in the UK. According to the report, India is the more mature market for leveraging AI, scoring 64 (out of 100) on Peak’s DI maturity scale, while the US charted 52 and the UK just 44.

The report stated that education about AI and internal communication is setting Indian businesses apart in using AI. The numbers said that 18% of US workers were not sure if their businesses used AI, compared to only 2% of Indian workers. Furthermore, 78% of junior staff in India expect AI to positively impact workers well in the next five years compared to 47% of those in the US.

New York stands ahead of California in AI leadership since it is a top financial services center in the US. This industry is the second most-mature industry behind IT, computing and technology with a mean maturity score of 56 across US, UK and Indian markets.

The survey drew insights from 3000 decision makers from businesses with at least 100 employees across the US, UK and India. It defines indicators for commercial AI readiness across five pillars, including decision-making, strategy, data and technology, people and process, and value. Each pillar within the framework is weighted and contributes to an overall index score of 0 to 100, indicating a business’s ability to adopt, deploy and leverage DI effectively.
