The first Agricultural Data Exchange (ADeX) in India has opened for business, ushering in a new chapter in the country's agricultural history.
ADeX is a product of a partnership between the Government of Telangana, the World Economic Forum, and the Indian Institute of Science, and it serves as a digital public infrastructure (DPI) for the agricultural industry.
At a ceremony in Hyderabad, KT Rama Rao, minister for IT, industries, and MA&UD, introduced ADeX and the Agriculture Data Management Framework (ADMF).
It is a publicly available, open-source, standard, and interoperable good. It democratizes access to data and makes it possible for both the public and private sectors to develop applications and provide services that benefit society.
The software platform enables the safe, standards-based interchange of data between users of agricultural data, such as agri application developers, and agricultural data providers, such as governmental organizations, for-profit businesses, non-governmental organizations, and academic institutions.
The ADeX platform is currently operational in the Khammam district as part of the project's initial phase, and it will eventually be made available throughout the entire state.
Several AgTechs showcased their digital products at the event, including market advisory, pest prediction advisory, and straightforward credit access. These solutions used data obtained through ADeX.
Additionally, the Telangana government made the Agriculture Data Management Framework (ADMF) public.
The framework was created following lengthy public and industry consultations on the critical facets of data management, innovation, and protection.
The ADMF is a flexible, forward-looking framework to promote consent-based responsible data exchange. Home laws and regulations and the convergence of global best practices inform it.
