On Wednesday, the Indian government announced that it will host a two-day Artificial Intelligence-focused global summit in Delhi on October 4, 5, and 6. The summit, RAISE (Responsible AI for Social Empowerment) will provide a platform for global participants to exchange ideas on how India’s AI advancement can be used for transforming society, inclusive development and citizen empowerment. 

“The name “RAISE 2020” came into being because we want to leverage responsible AI practices for enabling the masses…PM wanted to have a summit where we could bring AI experts from industry and universities from across the world ” said Abhishek Singh, President and CEO, National e-Governance Division (NeGD) at a press briefing in New Delhi. 

The summit will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Major global industries such as AWS, Microsoft and academia from Stanford University, Indian Institute of Technology and Carnegie Mellon University will be present at the summit. “RAISE 2020 will facilitate an exchange of ideas to further create mass awareness about the need to ethically develop and practice AI in the digital era,” Singh said. The participants will deliberate the course of AI advancement in key thematic such as healthcare, agriculture, education and smart mobility, among others.
