During the discussion with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, billionaire and philanthropist Bill Gates commented, “Indians are leading the way in technology”. Gates met PM Modi at his residence in the national capital ahead of the Lok Sabha election, which will be held from 19 April to 1 June 2024. A teaser of the interaction was recently released.

As per the teaser, Gates told PM Modi that Indians are adapting to the technology and leading the way. “One of the themes India brings to the table is that technology should be for everyone,” Gates said.

During his last visit to India, Gates said he had discussed various local and global challenges and was astonished by India’s robust focus on challenges related to digital public infrastructure, women-led development and innovation. Gates said he was optimistic that India would lead the way in using Artificial Intelligence for public good.

“India has had pretty steady growth for some time. There are countries to learn from with periods of very long growth. India will have to do things its way. Manufacturing, for example, will play a role, but not as great a role as it did, say, in China. Services will play a greater role,” Gates added while speaking virtually on March 27 at the Times Now Summit 2024.
