The higher and technical education department of the Maharashtra Government has recently approved the establishment of India’s first Universal AI university in Karjat, Mumbai. The university will offer various undergraduate and postgraduate programs on Artificial Intelligence. The university is India’s first university to offer degrees and specialised courses in the field of AI.

They will predominantly offer a multi-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary curriculum with subjects from five disciplines, which is for the first time ever in India by any university. According to the reports, the university aims to provide innovative courses in a wide range of contemporary fields like Liberal Arts and Humanities, Law, Global Affairs and Diplomacy, Environment and Sustainability and Sport Sciences.

The university will provide cutting-edge knowledge and skills in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Data Science. With their top-of-the-line student infrastructure, they provide Quantum Computing AI Lab, IoT Lab, AR/VR/MR Lab and Thomson Reuters Global Trading Room as well.

The university aims to empower young minds by educating them through 80% experiential learning and integrating Artificial Intelligence into all programs. The university is said to be endorsed by 60 Global CEOs. The academic year at Universal AI University will begin on August 1, 2023. As a first stage, the university will introduce a well-crafted curriculum focusing on Artificial Intelligence.

According to Financial Express, Tarundeep Singh Anand, the Chancellor and Founder of Universal AI University, said, “India’s and Maharashtra’s first dedicated AI university will act as a key driver of country’s and state’s growth and development in the 21st century by teaching universal skill sets. Additionally, the university would serve as a research hub for developing new AI technologies, bringing economic and technological benefits to India”.

He further explained, “Under India’s new National Education Policy, the government is striving to introduce skill-oriented courses so that the country’s young population can gain vocational or higher education degree by 2035-an increase of 500 million students”.

“Currently, the opportunity in AI, globally and in India, is vast. The government’s policies are conducive. By fostering collaborations with the world’s best academic institutions, we are well-poised to offer a broad-ranging curriculum in AI, paving the way for global career opportunities,” he added.
