Meta's CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, said in a post on Monday that the company now has a team working on AI-powered tools. It could eventually include "AI personas" designed to help people in "various ways" and new AI tools in its apps and services.
More specifically, Zuckerberg says that the company is working on AI "experiences" with text, like chat with Messenger and WhatsApp, experiences with images, like "creative Instagram filters and ad formats," and "video and multi-modal experiences." Axios says that Ahmad Al-Dahle, Meta's vice president of AI and machine learning, who used to work for Apple's particular product group, will be in charge of the new AI team.
Zuckerberg writes, "We're making a new top-level product group at Meta that will work on generative AI to speed up our work in this area." "We have a lot of groundwork to do before we can get to the futuristic experiences, but I'm excited about all the new things we'll build along the way."
As OpenAI's ChatGPT gets increasingly popular, more companies, like Microsoft, Google, and even Snapchat, are looking for ways to use generative AI. Meta just said that it is working on its own AI language generator called LLaMA, which is more for researchers than for the general public. It also made two AI chatbots called Galactica and Blenderbot. They could have been more outstanding, but seeing how Meta improves and adds AI to each app will be interesting.
