Microsoft has launched a Micro Degree in Artificial Intelligence (AI) titled 'AI Programming Assistant' as part of its ongoing commitment to enhancing digital skills across India.
The launch was marked by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), India, a significant step that underscores the importance of this partnership. The MoU was signed by Hon'ble Minister Shri Jayant Chaudhari, Minister of State (I/C), MSDE, and Shri Atul Kumar Tiwari, IAS, Secretary, MSDE.
This initiative, developed in collaboration with the Directorate General of Training (DGT) at MSDE and various industry partners, aims to extend AI education to over 200 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and 15 National Skill Training Institutes (NSTIs) across the country. The overarching goal is to build an inclusive ecosystem where AI skills are accessible to a broad spectrum of learners, empowering India's youth with the tools needed for success in the digital economy.
Microsoft India's partnership with the DGT at MSDE has a longstanding history of fostering digital literacy and vocational training. Thousands of young individuals have benefited from previous AI-focused training programs and cybersecurity and digital productivity courses. The renewed partnership signifies a deepened commitment to vocational education, with the introduction of the craftsman training scheme through the AI Programming Assistant micro degree.
Microsoft and its partners aim to equip students and professionals with the essential skills to thrive in an increasingly AI-driven world by expanding access to AI education. The AI Programming Assistant course, designed to provide learners with practical knowledge and hands-on experience in AI, positions them to take advantage of emerging opportunities in the technology sector, thereby enhancing their confidence and competence in the field.
The MoU exchange marks the next phase of this impactful partnership, which is expected to shape the future of vocational education in India significantly. Through this collaboration, Microsoft and MSDE are not only enhancing the employability of the Indian workforce but also contributing to the nation’s digital transformation, thereby shaping the future of vocational education and the digital economy in India.
