NASSCOM, along with EY and with support from Microsoft, EXL and Capgemini, has developed a first-of-its-kind AI Adoption Index for India.

The study 'Tracking India's Sectoral Progress on AI Adoption' intends to assess AI adoption in India and dive deep into the four key sectors which are leading India's AI story - BFSI, CPG and Retail, Healthcare, and Industrials and Automotive.

"These sectors contribute nearly about 70 per cent of the $500 billion in value that AI and data can unlock for India. As AI becomes more and more pervasive, it has become tremendously important to assess the level of sectoral adoption and evaluate the levers influencing it," said Debjani Ghosh, President, NASSCOM, while making the announcement

"The initiative's main objective is to draw out the insights which will enable industry executives and policymakers to plan relevant interventions that are needed to leverage to their fullest potential for the country," she added.

The index has been designed to assess India's AI maturity keeping a holistic view in mind.

Amitabh Kant, CEO of NITI Aayog, said, "It is important for India to look at Artificial Intelligence adoption across all parameters of aspects - investment, data and technology, ethics and governance and the report provides inputs on these key dimensions along with specific sectoral focus."

Further, Mr Kant congratulated the NASSCOM team led by Debjani Ghosh for undertaking an important initiative. He mentioned the impact of AI across sectors and lauded the way government and public sectors are leveraging the power of AI to benefit its citizens.

With regards to AI Adoption Index, the overall score is calculated based on performance across six dimensions which cover aspects related to AI strategy, investments, talent, technology and data readiness, innovation, and ethics and governance. Based on the aggregate score, the index rates enterprise maturity on a four-point scale and categorises it as Explorer, Enthusiast, Expert, or Evangelist.
