Prime Minister Narendra Modi reportedly called for a global framework for the ethical use of Artificial Intelligence while he flagged the concerns around AI bias and its impact on society. While addressing the B20 Summit India 2023, PM Modi mentioned India is preparing a global framework for Green Credit and advised the industry leaders to adopt life and businesses with a focus on planet-positive actions.

Moreover, Modi emphasised sensitive issues such as climate change, energy sector crisis, food supply chain imbalance and water security. He said such cases have a more significant impact on business, and in order to fight these challenges, there is a need to boost the common efforts.

While addressing the challenges related to cryptocurrencies and the need for an integrated approach to rectify them, PM Modi said a similar approach is also needed for AI. “Today, the world is showing a lot of excitement regarding AI. But amidst the excitement, there are also some ethical considerations. Concern about algorithm bias and its impact on society is being raised regarding skilling and re-skilling. Such issues also have to be resolved together,” he opined.

The PM called the business leaders and governments to collaborate to avoid bias and ensure ethical AI as “we have to sense the potential disruptions in different sectors. This problem has to be solved under the global framework.” Furthermore, the PM suggested reconsidering the traditional approach to the business, asserting they should go beyond brand and sales. He advised, “As a business, we also have to focus on creating an ecosystem that will benefit us in the long term.”
